Today I did it... I used "the gun"! Jimmy and I went downtown to start our wedding gift registry, and it was fun using the gun, but it was equally frustrating on deciding what to put on the registry.
We're only making this registry for our friends. As I was told firmly by some friends, they find it offensive and uncomfortable to give a monetary gift as opposed to a materialistic item - this way the person will know how much you've spent on them. I honestly prefer money as a gift to help me pay for my honeymoon and paying the wedding bill. Actually, I really don't care if I get a gift or not - I am not having a wedding to get gifts, I'm having a wedding to get married, and I am inviting people that I want there to celebrate a wonderful milestone in my and Jimmy's life.
I've heard some rumors that the place we decided to do the registry through tends to take a while to get the gifts to wedding couples - sometimes as far as 3 months after the wedding. Many things that people normally register for are basically things for the house. Our issue is this: Jimmy and I are planning to move into our house in May. Some things that I would normally put on a registry, I will have to buy anyway when I move in. Things like towels, cutlery, bedding, plates, glasses, pots/pans, etc. are things I cannot wait until 3 months after the wedding to get. My friend suggested a toaster - I'm not going to wait 5 months to eat toast! I did manage to put things on the registry, but we could only think of big-ticket items (like a Kitchen-Aide mixer - gotta have one of those!!). I felt guilty for putting these items on the registry though.
Another issue was deciding on colours to get for items that were colour specific, such as towels, table cloths, placemats, etc, because I obviously want it to match my home decor, but I still don't know how I'm going to decorate the house. I don't want all these things in the wrong colour! *sigh* so you can see why it was frustrating.
But like I said, it was fun! Here's me packing heat :)
And as for a house update - they've put the tile in! On the floors and in the bathroom! And we got a garage door! It's so close to completion.... I can't wait!!
